Session Descriptions:
1. OIDE: Climate Detectives
This workshop, hosted by OIDE, will provide an opportunity for teachers to explore the Climate Detectives resources from the European Space Agency’s Education Office.
2. Maynooth: 5*S Space, Surveyors, and Students
“5*S Space, Surveyors, and Students” is a STEM programme that enables students and teachers to deploy cutting-edge satellite technology in the classroom free of charge via the ArcGIS platform. Through the integration of an easy-to-use augmented reality app, SatelliteSkill5, developed by the 5*S team and by knowing the basics of using the ArcGIS Online platform, 5*S offers a unique educational experience focused on mapping, satellite technology and data literacy. It provides insight for students about how satellite data can be used to understand scientific concepts. With the UN Sustainable Development Goals as a central theme, it explores practical solutions to address global challenges like climate change and sustainability, empowering young people with relevant knowledge and skills. It aims to inspire a new generation of problem-solvers and environmentally conscious citizens.
3. BCO: Light Pollution Monitoring from above and from the ground.
Use smart phone light and location sensing to map light pollution and compare it to Earth Observation Data. Developed as part of the Erasmus+ funded CliC-PoLiT project.
4. Explorium: ‘Cool It’ – Explore this interactive award-winning experience focusing on Climate awareness and that challenges visitors to embrace and commit to changing their behaviour.
Update: this event has been cancelled, and will move to an online format later this year
