What is necessary to sustain life? What do humans need to survive while exploring and travelling through space? And what can we learn from other organisms living on our planet?
While looking at some of the impressive animals in our care it might be easy to wonder how such species are capable of incredible feats, and how they can survive in environments and conditions that might definitely prove too harsh for human beings.
At the same time, how is it possible for us to have snakes, alligators and tortoises from all over the world living here in Kilkenny? The concept of life support does not only apply to space exploration, but also to what we do daily here at the zoo!
Join us as we take a closer look at our animals and we wonder what they can teach us about surviving in extreme environments, and how that could help us adapt and survive in space. Ask our zookeepers how we take care of all these species, which technologies do we use to create their habitats and why hosting African tortoises in Ireland could teach us about living among the stars.
Think you have it all figured out? Design your own habitat and tell us all about it!
We will be waiting for you at the National Reptile Zoo in Kilkenny for Space Week!
